Do businesses face a supply chain visibility gap?
Businesses face “a fundamental gap” in their supply chains because they cannot answer “basic questions” about where their products are, according to Patrick Strauss, global supply chain propositions director for BT Global Services. Some interesting comments from Patric Strauss, who says that "siloed and disparate IT and data systems mean that it is difficult for businesses to track their goods after they leave their buildings".
One of the problems firms face, he said, is a lack of true global and scalable software solutions that can track products moving from A to B across their entire journey. “If you look at traditional management systems, such as ERP or WMS solutions, they are very much what I would describe as looking inside the four walls,” Strauss explained. “That is all well and nice, but once those products [leave the business] you lose sight of them.”
